Green Spirulina Popcorn

0 · May 24, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Who doesn’t like popcorn? Maybe there are a few paeople, but we certainly do love it. We make popcorn from time to time, usually as a little movie night snack. But this week something incredible has happened. Last night we ate popcorn third time this week.  Ha-ha. it looks like we are a little obsessed. But It is all about the right recipe.
Recently I’ve done lots of experiments with superfood spirulina; and I suddenly found a wonderful easy spirulina popcorn recipe.

To mention a few facts about spirulina. This superfood is freshwater blue-green algae. It can help boost your immune system, regulate cholesterol and blood pressure. It’s deep color comes from chlorophyll which provides vitamin A, B vitamins and iron. It also contains essential amino acids is high in protein.

Time to try it!

Spirulina Popcorn

(about 6 cups)

1/2  cup non-GMO popping corn

2 tablespoon + 1/2 cup olive oil

4 teaspoons garlic powder

2 teaspoon spirulina

5 tablespoon nutritional yeast

1 teaspoon flaky sea salt

1/4 teaspoon cayenne

Instructions:

Heat 2 tablespoon of the olive oil in a large metal pasta pot (or similar) over medium-high heat.

Add two corn kernels, cover with the lid leaving it slightly ajar, and cook until the kernels pop.

Add the 1/2 cup of corn and cook with the lid slightly ajar, shaking the pot every 30 seconds or so, until almost all of the corn has popped (you’ll know because there will suddenly be much longer breaks between popping sounds). Cover with the lid and turn off the heat while you prepare the seasoning.

Combine the remaining ingredients such as olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, spirulina, nutritional yeast, sea salt, and cayenne in a large bowl and mix together with a rubber spatula.

Add the popped corn and toss with the spatula (or your hands) to evenly distribute the seasoning.

Enjoy it any time!

Thanks GOOP for the inspiration!
